Bike Month 2019

Bike Month 2019 kicks off on Wednesday, May 1st and Bike SLO County is starting the month right with our annual Bike Breakfast at the Bike Kitchen from 7-9 a.m. Below is a preview of Bike SLO County events during Bike Month. These events and others are all listed on the calendar maintained by the fine folks at SLO Shift: http://sloshift.org

Keep it clean…

In an effort to help make Bike Month events less dependent on single-use containers and utensils, Bike SLO County reached out to the community and discovered an amazing, local FLATWARE library called Table Ware Share – Free Lending! (If you’re hosting an event and want to borrow reusable dishes etc, click this link!) While we still want to encourage people to consider using/reusing your own cups, utensils, plates, napkins, etc. during Bike Month and beyond to help cut down on waste and save the earth, we’ll have plates, cups and utensils at our Bike Breakfasts if you need them.

May 1: Bike Breakfast: 7-9 AM at SLO Bike Kitchen. Let’s kick off Bike Month right with Breakfast at the Kitchen. Stop in for coffee (donated by Nautical Bean), breakfast tacos, pancakes, pastries donated by House of Bread, juice, fruit and more as we kick off Bike Month 2019! 2017 Red Davis Celebration

Get Ready for an evening of FUN!

The 7th Annual Red Davis Celebration is upon us! Join us on Friday, November 3rd for dinner and drinks as we thank our incredible supporters and announce the recipients of our 2017 awards: Volunteer of the Year, Advocate of the Year, Public Servant of the Year, Donor of the Year, Business Member of the Year, and Board Member of the Year. Once again this year we’re hosting the ceremonies at the historic King David’s Masonic Lodge in Downtown SLO.

This event is open to everyone – whether you’re 8 or 80, a Volunteer, a Bike SLO County member, an adult, a kid, a kid at heart or just a bike lover in general. We are very proud of the amazing energy that our community and volunteers provide…let’s celebrate!

Dinner, wine, beer and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided. Food, wine, beer, soda…you’re probably wondering how much this is going to cost you, right? We’ll have some tip jars out to help cover the costs of food, drinks and renting the Lodge, but chipping in isn’t required. (We’ll love you if you do chip in but we’ll still love you either way!)

We’ll also have our DIY photo-booth set-up to capture your fun, festive selfies.

Doors open at 6:00 pm, awards ceremony begins at 7:00 p.m.

Our free Bike Valet will be parking bikes from 5:45-8:45 p.m. in the back parking lot of SLO Bike and Run (883 Marsh St, next door to the Masonic Lodge).

To enter, use the secret Masonic Elevator to the left of Founders Community Bank to enter the Lodge. We’ll have signs to help you find your way.

Sound good? Mark your calendar, November 3rd from 6-8:30PM. PLEASE RSVP on Facebook so we can gauge attendance figures and plan accordingly.

About Red Davis: In 2001 Red was a founding member of Bike SLO County (back when we were the SLO County Bicycle Coalition). For countless years Red has worked hard throughout SLO County as an advocate for better bikeways, including a ten year stint with the county’s Bicycle Advisory Committee. The County Board of Supervisors honored Red by designating the bike lanes on Los Osos Valley Road between Foothill Boulevard and South Bay Boulevard as “The Red Davis Bikeway”. Red’s hard work and dedication were the inspiration for the Red Davis Celebration, created to honor members of the bike community who make SLO County a better place for bikes. Red currently serves as a member of the Morro Bay City Council.

Here comes Two-Wheeled Wednesday

Be Active, Be Social, Win!

This week we introduce Two-Wheeled Wednesday. Our goal? To get more folks riding bikes, at least one day a week. Already ride more than that? Awesome! Want to ride more but don’t think you have the time? Two-Wheeled Wednesday! Have friends who are interested in riding but haven’t made the leap? Two-Wheeled Wednesday! TwoWheeledWednesdayChimpWant an excuse to ride your bike even more? Two-Wheeled Wednesday!

Here’s how it works: On Two-Wheeled Wednesday,  ride your bicycle.  With friends. With colleagues. With strangers. Even alone, on Wednesdays we all ride together. Ride to coffee, to work, to school, to anywhere our bikes will take us. Ride with anyone and everyone who wants to ride. Ride a mile, or two, or around the block. But ride, and invite others. In Paso. In Pismo. In Cambria, Santa Margarita, SLO, Oceano, anywhere and everywhere in SLO County and beyond. The idea behind Two-Wheeled Wednesday is simply riding bikes and encouraging others to ride as well, no matter the distance.

Participate and Win

To encourage as many people as possible to ride on Two-Wheeled Wednesdays, we’ll have monthly giveaways. To be entered, take a photo or video of your ride and share it with us on our Facebook, InstagramTwitter or Tumblr pages using the hashtag #twowheeledwednesday. At the end of each month, we’ll do a drawing for Bike Lights, Bike Kitchen Passes and other great stuff. To clarify: Two-Wheeled Wednesday takes place every Wednesday, drawings take place at the end of each month in 2016.

Share your photo or video entries with us on:

Facebook: BikeSLOCounty  Instagram: bikeslocounty  Twitter: bikeslo Tumblr: bikeslocounty

Make sure to include the #twowheeledwednesday hastag! Invite your friends! Invite your neighbors! We can’t wait to see all the SLO County bike riders!
