Expanded Bike Kitchen Hours Coming Soon

Working on your weekend project is about to get a lot easier!

Since opening our doors in early 2010 we have had over 6,000 people use the Bike Kitchen to wrench on their bicycles, find parts for projects, and learn the art of bicycle maintenance. A lot has evolved in the space since that time with major improvements to our workspace and organization, yet our hours have remained the same, but things are about to change.

NewBikeKitchenHours01

We are excited to announce that beginning on Friday February 28, 2014 we will be expanding from 10 to 15 operating hours per week with full weekend days as well. With the new hours we can provide more people with the chance to join us and get their bicycles in tip-top shape.

The long awaited expansion of the Bike Kitchen is largely in part to increased support from our volunteers and members who keep our wheels spinning, a BIG thanks to all of you!

In addition to more open hours we are also introducing a tiered pricing system, allowing for half-day ($5) and full-day ($10) pricing options. Bicycle Coalition members still receive 4 free visits as part of their membership – an incredible deal!

NewBikeKitchenHours

New Bike Kitchen hours as of Friday February 28, 2014*

  • Fridays 12:00 – 5:00 pm
  • Saturdays 12:00 – 5:00 pm
  • Sundays 12:00 – 5:00 pm

*We will be closed on February 26th & 27th in preparation for our new hours.

Throughout California people have formed lifelong memories on paths in Sacramento, Los Angeles, Monterey, Lake Tahoe, Ventura, and countless more. In San Jose, a ride from downtown on the Guadalupe River Trail is a total breeze as you cross underneath numerous freeways, taking you all the way to the bay or the new 49ers stadium. Even in Bakersfield you can enjoy a family ride on the Kern River Parkway, a 30 mile separated path which connects multiple county parks with the university campus and the downtown. We are all on the path

In SLO County, local governments approved plans for paths decades ago, but very few miles have actually been built. Connect SLO County shares your experiences with local leaders, intensifying efforts to complete more incredible paths on the Central Coast. More people deserve to feel safe creating memories on paths in their own backyards.

Everyone can reconnect with the joy of riding a bike when traffic is out of sight and the sound of children’s infectious laughter fills your ears. No matter what your ability, age, choice of sport, or type of bicycle, paths will provide you a safe space to experience the happiness of SLO County.

Year of the Bicycle Coalition Member

At Bicycle Coalition HQ, we have affectionately dubbed 2012 the Year of the Bicycle Coalition Member. The reasons are endless, but a few things stick out from the rest:

  • We have more members than ever (750+ individuals & 40+ businesses)
  • We hosted our first General Meeting in 2012
  • We hosted the inaugural Members Only Party* in September 2012
  • More and more people are out on bicycles every day in SLO County!

Join03

In reflecting on 2012 one thing remains clear; the Bicycle Coalition family is growing and everyone is feeling it! Everything we do is for our members. We loved getting everyone together through our new events, to share our vision for the organization and celebrate our collective love for bicycles and the quality of life in SLO County that we cherish dearly.

Yet the Year of the Bicycle Coalition Member goes well beyond our events. Everywhere we went, we met people who just became members, all were energized and proud to be a part of our rapidly growing organization. We welcome these newcomers to the Bicycle Coalition family and can’t wait to see them at upcoming events, out on their bicycles, and sharing the community-minded vision of the Bicycle Coalition for years to come.

If you haven’t joined yet, now is the time!

We are THE voice for bicycles in SLO County, our numbers our growing, and we’d love to have you become a part of our vision for a more bicycle friendly community.

*Our next Members Only Party is set for June 1, 2013 – and it’s a bicycle fashion show!
